RVE
Religion, Values and Ethics at Aberdare Town CiW Primary School
At Aberdare Town Church in Wales Primary School, Religion, Values and Ethics (RVE) is at the heart of our curriculum. It helps children explore life’s big questions, understand different beliefs, and reflect on their own values in light of our Christian ethos. We aim to nurture respect, compassion, and a sense of responsibility towards others and God’s creation.
Why Religion, Values and Ethics Matters
RVE matters because it shapes the way we live and relate to others. It teaches children to appreciate diversity, develop empathy, and make thoughtful decisions. Through RVE, our learners discover how faith and values influence communities and history, helping them grow as caring, informed citizens who live out Christian principles of love, justice, and forgiveness.
What Our Learners Experience
Our learners enjoy a rich variety of experiences, such as:
- Visits to local churches and chapels to learn about worship and community life.
- Daily Worship as members of their individual classes and or as part of our wider school community.
- Exploring Bible stories and their relevance today.
- Learning about world faiths and how people express beliefs through festivals, art, and traditions.
- Reflective activities like creating prayer spaces and engaging in weekly Jigsaw sessions.
These experiences make learning meaningful and encourage spiritual growth.
Developing Skills for Life
Through RVE, children develop critical thinking, respectful dialogue, and ethical decision-making. They learn to listen, question, and express their views thoughtfully. These skills prepare them for life in a diverse world, helping them to live out Christian values of kindness, honesty, and service.
Celebrating Religion, Values and Ethics
We celebrate faith and values in many ways:
- Collective Worship that brings our school community together.
- Special events like Harvest, Christmas, and Easter services.
- Interfaith learning where pupils explore different cultures and traditions.
These celebrations strengthen our sense of belonging and remind us of God’s love for all.
Looking Ahead
Our vision is to help every child grow spiritually, morally, and socially. By engaging with RVE, learners become compassionate individuals who respect others and care for the world. We aim to inspire them to live out their faith and values in everyday life, making a positive difference in their communities.
