Health and Wellbeing

Health and Wellbeing at Aberdare Town CiW Primary School

At Aberdare Town CiW Primary School, we place the health and wellbeing of every learner at the heart of our curriculum. This Area of Learning and Experience (AoLE) empowers pupils to develop the knowledge, skills, and values they need to lead happy, healthy, and fulfilling lives - both now and in the future.

Why Health and Wellbeing Matters
We believe that wellbeing is the foundation for successful learning. When children feel safe, valued, and confident, they thrive academically and socially. Our approach promotes physical health, emotional resilience, and positive relationships, ensuring that every child can flourish.

What Our Learners Experience
Through Health and Wellbeing, pupils explore:

  • Physical Development: PE lessons, outdoor activities, and sports that build fitness, coordination, and teamwork.
  • Healthy Lifestyles: Understanding nutrition, making informed choices, and developing lifelong habits for wellbeing.
  • Emotional and Mental Health: Strategies for managing feelings, building resilience, and fostering self-esteem.
  • Relationships and Social Skills: Learning respect, empathy, and communication to form positive connections.
  • Safety and Responsibility: Staying safe online and offline, and making responsible decisions.

Developing Skills for Life
This AoLE equips learners to be:

  • Healthy, confident individuals who make informed choices about their wellbeing.
  • Ethical, informed citizens who respect themselves and others.
  • Ambitious, capable learners who understand the link between wellbeing and achievement.

Our Commitment
We create a nurturing environment where pupils feel supported and encouraged. Through initiatives like mindfulness activities, wellbeing weeks, and pupil voice groups, we ensure that every child knows their wellbeing matters.

Looking Ahead
Health and Wellbeing is more than a subject - it’s a lifelong journey. By developing resilience, empathy, and healthy habits, our learners are prepared to face challenges and embrace opportunities with confidence.
