Big Maths
We introduced Big Maths at Aberdare Town Church in Wales Primary School in September 2025. Big Maths is a primary school mathematics framework that breaks down learning into small, manageable steps called Progress Drives. It focuses on building foundational skills through a structured approach called CLIC. This is an acronym for Counting, Learn Its, It's Nothing New, and Calculation, a key component of the Big Maths teaching method used to assess and develop children's core numeracy skills. CLIC challenges are weekly assessments that cover addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, with children progressing to the next level after consistently scoring full marks.
Big Math and our daily CLIC sessions have a particular focus on mental arithmetic skills and we have already seen some amazing progress.
